aight i'd better make a note cuz i have a head cold and i'm kinda groggy
-2006 NYE party
-2006 recap

Before I start on that, I'd like to say props to Cal for beating Texas A&M at the Holiday Bowl. It's too bad that Lynch is going into the draft, but I can't blame him. Talent like that sometimes just can't wait. Good thing they have Forsett. Looking forward to next season.

I also got a chance to chill with Grace K. She stopped by on her way up to Oregon. I hadn't seen her in years, so it was really nice to grab a bite to eat and catch up with her. I wish I could have hung out more with her, but I had an early meeting the next day. Hopefully I'll be better about keeping in touch with her after today.

NYE Party
The JAB house has been the location of many a party in the past few years. Post-obon parties, just for the hell of it parties, birthday parties. etc. However, I will say that this NYE party that took place there was probably one of the best, if not THE best party that's been thrown there. I headed over there early to buy and set up Jon's xmas present (a better dance floor for the garage). I must say, I had my reservations, as last year I know that they ate crepes and watched TV. However, the party was AWESOME.

For the following reasons:
1) There was HELLA people. Tons of people showed up: our crew, bob's crew (even Pat), jeff, mark, mike, Greg and Christy, Gina and David, friends of friends, etc. It was fucking awesome.
2) There was HELLA dancing. With the improved dance floor, music, and lighting, the garage was given the title of "Club Lucious" by Pat, and thanks to a buzzed shan and bryant, everyone was in there shaking what they momma's gave them. There was a drunken break dancing contest, booty dropping contest..I unsuccessfully tried to rap along with Snoop/Warren G/Kurupt on "ain't no fun" (too drunk). It was fucking awesome.
3) Everyone was drinking and having a good time. NO DRAMA, SON. Even greg and christy were drinking and having a good time. It was awesome. Nothing but laughs, jokes, smiles, good times...just the way I wanted 2006 to end and 2007 to start. Well, maybe with a few less embarassing photos. But you take your lumps with the good stuff. hehe.

There were THREE bottles of Effen vodka (the drink of the moment). Good food, and I was only minimally hung over the next day.

Recap of 2006

I have begun this thing where I don't like to point out all of the ways and means by which i've changed. I feel by doing that, I'll lessen the impact of it upon myself, and also it makes me feel like I need to brag about it so that people can see it. I would much rather people see it for themselves, and come to their own conclusions.

I will say thought that this year has been the biggest year for me in terms of growing, both emotionally and mentally. I've realized that a lot of the things that I used to put value on, really aren't that important in order to lead a fulfilling life. I've realized that I need to respect myself more, and be more positive. If you lead a life without respecting yourself, then all of your actions will only serve to fill the void that you feel inside. Why do you think that some people can't be alone, or why they're in a relationship simply to be in one? I could never see the difference between respecting oneself and being full of oneself, and now it's crystal clear. I look forward to 2007 and all that happens.

I finished graduate school and got a full time job. I'm still living with my parents and my brother, which has allowed me to become closer with all of them. I'm amazed that my parents still put up with me and my brother, still doing a lot of thankless work for us (laundry, etc.), and haven't given us an ultimatum of when we need to move out by.

This year, has served to show me that there is no place for me to go -- that life can be good no matter where you are, it's just a matter of what you make of it. There is SO MUCH that I still haven't done here in the bay area that I want to. I'm hoping to do a lot of it in 2007.

My life this year has been sustained by two things: my friends, and dancing. My friends up here make things tolerable and enjoyable. They take the bad and make them good. We 're all different, and we all don't get along at certain times, but that's what makes the friendships work. If nothing changed, shit would be boring, and I'd be forced to start drama to come up with new things to discuss (Chris Rock: "Did I tell you about the one time?" "YEAH you told me about the one time! Why don't you have some new shit happen to you!?"). Anyways, my friends keep me from going crazy. Doesn't matter if we're chilling at obon, or sitting around doing nothing till 6am, it's always fun.

Learning the basics of popping has done wonders for my perspective on dancing and clubbing. I used to not be able to clubbing without an equal number of girls to guys. I used to do nothing but the two step. Now, I look at clubbing outings as practice sessions. Popping has allowed me to really feel the music and not worry so much about how I look (well to a certain point). It always puts me in a good mood too.

Not that everything that happened this year was positive. There are things which I can't mention on this blog which have made me take a step back. Made me angry, frustrated, diappointed. I hate to be cryptic, but it's going to have to be that way. Mainly because with some of these events I'm simply trying to forget them or still deal with them. ALL GOOD LEARNING EXPERIENCES =)

aight gotta cut it off here...part 2 laters.

2006 Resolutions up in hurrrr

the obligatory and all too cliche recap of 2006 will be written tomorrow.

Tonight before I crash I'll just write my resolutions:

1) Lose body fat percentage by any healthy means necessary. My goal is to drop 8-10% of my body fat. I don't care about the weight no more. I just wanna ditch the fat. I wanna be cut and lean. This may be a far stretch and a crazy goal, but it's something that I need to do. Now that I'm thinking with a more positive mind, and using the positive attitude to motivate, I think I can do it. That means exercise everyday, eating healthy, exercising EVERYDAY. I can do this. I know I can. I want 4 percent gone by April and the other 4 percent gone by July. I can't wait to see myself on the other side. No pain, no gain.

2) Keep up the positivity. I realized a lot this year. A lot about myself, and about my attitude towards life. I'll leave the rest of this for tomorrow's blog. But yeah. This year gotta keep up the positive. I just gotta keep remembering that it's all about perspective. That sounds so cliche, but it's not. This is the reason why it's always good to talk things out. It changes perspective. Your house can be burning down in front of you, and later on, you can still smile about it as long as your perspective is right. It's not "my house fuckin' burned down", it's "Thank goodness my family and I got out and are okay".

3) Keep on strengthening the connection between my friends and I. Though i've known a lot of the people up here for a good part of my life, a friendship can never be completely completed. With both parties constantly changing, there is always something new to talk about, something new to laugh about, something new to connect on. But it's not something you can put on autopilot. For that reason, this year I want to keep finding new things to do with my friends. Camping, hiking, new restaurants, vegas trips, road trips, etc. etc. There is still so much to do in the bay area and I'm going to find it dammit.

As for the SD friends that I've lost touch with, I will gladly look forward to any opportunities to catch up with them. Until then I'll simply be glad that I had such quality friends in my past, and hope the best for them.

4) Stop comparing. I believe the weakest part of my being is that I am constantly comparing myself to others. In both a bad way and a good way (both being bad), meaning I'm either putting myself down or putting others down. There is a Buddhist saying: "We condemn others for their wrongdoings, yet remain completely unaware of our own". I REALLY need to pound into my head that all of us are on the same level. So easy to say, so hard to do. I am no better than anyone else, and no one is better than me. Period. Except on the dance floor: I'm sorry but if you dancing the fool I'm gonna have to laugh. But i'm laughing at you, not with you. And no, that is not a typo.

5) Less advice giving, more listening. Have you guys seen that kleenex commercial where the fool puts out a couch and asks people to just sit down and talk? I guess the new kleenex slogan is "let it out". Anyways, it's so true. When people talk about stuff, they don't want answers. They want someone to listen. They want to talk it out because when you hear yourself talk it out, it can change your perspective. You can't talk to yourself because it just don't work. You need someone to listen to you. To help you understand yourself. I learned that myself along the way. And so i need to start practicing it. If people want answers, they'll ask. Otherwise I will just be someone that will sit, and listen. Besides, no one is going to do something just cuz your ass told them to. They have to believe it for themselves.

Other less important resolutions:
5) Get better at poker
6) Spend more money on my myself (I'm too damn money hungry)
7) BE HAPPY.
8) Get better at poppin'. Find cool dance practice spots.

More tomorrow (2006 recap, including the JAB house party) Now it's time for bed.

Sunday, December 31, 2006

There are a lot of things to write about, but I'll split it up. Lets start with Milk.

Last Sat, I went to a club called Milk up in the city. I will tell you this once: If you never go to Milk in your life, you are not missing anything. In fact, consider yourself lucky that you don't have to go this POS club. So why did it suck so bad? It failed in the three main factors of a club.

ONE) Music - I didn't know that Milk had a teleportation device, because the next thing I know, we were apparently transported to Jamaica. I can tell this because all of a sudden I'm thrown into a reggae EXPLOSION. I really don't get why clubs insist on playing reggae. It's not like I hate the music, I just hate it IN CLUBS. You can't dance to reggae. It just clears out dance floors and pisses off club patrons who paid good money to get in (10 bucks on this particular night). Anyways, the dude plays reggae for like 30 minutes straight. fucking UGH. After that, it then goes into the hyphy set for the rest of the night. Now I dunno if any of you have been in a club when they start playing hyphy shit, but it makes everyone dance like it's a fucking mosh pit. I had no idea that "gettin' hyphy" meant dancing like you're mentally retarded and have live eels stuck up your ass. I mean seriously...if you're going to dance like that, you might as well just give yourself a seizure and really look like you're getting hyphy. wtf.

Speaking of the DJs, they were supposed to be these three guys who make up this trio called "triple threat". It was the main reason why I went to Milk that night. But instead of three, we get one guy. One guy who apprently is the sucky member of the group. And I know this for two reasons: one, his music selection sucked fat hairy donkey balls, and two, at one point, he kept messing up the music and the track would skip and shut down. Then he says "not my fault, not my fault". Well who the fuck's fault is it??? The bartender???

My god. I would have done a better job with my collection of mp3s. Bottom line, the music fucking SUCKED.

TWO) People - In a club you gotta expect to get shoved, and pushed and all that, but it can get to be too much. How?
a) Girls with purses - I had this one chick keep hitting me with her purse. Okay in general, if you're dancing, and you feel that you're bumping someone, then STOP FUCKING DOING THAT MOTION AND/OR MOVE. If you KEEP bumping me, then I WILL HIT YOU BACK. And when I do, you better not get pissed. No. You should be glad I didn't grab your purse and chuck it acorss the damn room. Who the fuck brings their purse into a club anyways? What did you take a horse drawn carridge to the club? Why the hell do you need to bring all your shit with you inside? Did you walk to the club? Money and ID, that's all you need. Get with the program
b) Fat people - K I'm fat, but then there's FAT. Look lets be honest here. If you're big and take up more room that the average person, then realize it and don't get acting like you thin. What I mean by that is, if you're in a crowded club, have some respect for those around, and don't get all crazy with the dancing, but even though i know you may not realize it, but PEOPLE AROUND YOU DON'T WANT TO KEEP GETTING HIT BY YOUR ROLLS. And if you're just naturally large, like the hella annoying somoan gentlement at the club, please do not push and shove just because you can. That's a dick move. And furthermore, if you go to aclub with ALL guys, do not spend all night doing catcalls at one another. WHy? Because one, you look like you're interested in one another, which may be likely, and two, it's FUCKING ANNOYING. Go home and yell at each other. Or better yet, just go home.
c) Crazy dancers - k. I get it. White people can't dance. But what's worse than that? A white person who knows they can't dance and then goes overboard with it. I had this white guy who was giving SUPER agressive forceful lap dances to these nasty girls. He kept bumping me. It was sad. But lets not assume that all non-whites CAN dance. There was this asian guy there who I was THIS close to socking in the head because he hit me in the head with his arms. I hope he was drunk, because he was dancing like he was in a janet jackson video all by himself. Unbuttoning his shirt, doing booty drops...wow. I have never wanted to throw up from watching another person dance so bad, but hey, there's a first time for everything.
d) Assholes - I met some new people that night, and some of them came off as real dicks. I'll leave it at that...those who know know what i'm talking about.

THREE) Size of the club - this club was small. That's fine. Some of the best places are smaller. But if you can fit less people in your club, dont' let too many in. If you can fit 100 comfortably, don't let in 300! WTF.

Anyways, everyone left the club PISSED. I have never had such a rotten clubbing experience in my entire life. I will gladly go to Mr. Smiths, PBBG, Loft 11, over the utter CRAP that is Milk. Nothing about that night was satisfactory, except for the massive amounts of shit talking about the club afterwards.

So on a scale of 1-10, Milk gets a -100000000000000000000000000000000000000.

Sofa Lounge needs to hurry up and open again.

K i'm tired. Shit I have so much more to write about. Tomorrow I guess.

yo.

I'm gonna reconsider doing my xmas shopping online next year. So many of my orders were fucked up or are going to be late. Pisses me off. Fuck newegg too, who neglected to tell me that one of the items that I had ordered was out of stock. The only way i found out is I went to the website to see why my order was taking so damn long. Those fuckers. Next time, it's gonna be nothing but amazon.

Anyways, time for the latest happenings.

It's xmas time, and everyone comes back home. this is a blessing, but frustrating. I want to hang out with everyone, but I also have limited amounts of time. In addition, I'm on my vacation which means that I also want to spend some time just vegging out and playing with my wii (yes that's a fucking joke). Nevertheless, it's always more fun to be busy than to be not busy, and I should be thanking my lucky stars that some friends that return home still want to hang out.

That being said, here's some of the things I've been doing:
-Went to a sushi place in Palo Alto that makes their nigiri using brown rice. It sounded pretty interesting and it turned out to be pretty good. The guy takes his sweet ass time making the sushi, but the cuts are top notch, and definitely worth a return visit. It was also very cheap. I had a decent amount of sushi for 15 bucks. Hamachi kicks ass yo. (reminder to self: go to Hanamaru and get the toro there). This trip was also cool because I got to met up with Cathy, who I haven't seen in a while. Good conversating. Talked to her about a trip to Yosemite, and hiking and other outdoor that i've been fiending to do. She also said that she's always down for a vegas trip, which is always a very good thing.

-Xmas party at Bob's. Because we've gotten in better with Bob's group, we were invited to her groups xmas party. It was a potluck, and a white elephant gift exchange. The food was bomb and there was a bunch of it. I tried my limited and sad cooking skills by making "inside out s'mores" (large marshmellows dipped in melted chocolate and covered with graham cracker crumbs). Someone made layered jello, which was fucking BOMB. I can't believe how much fun her group is. Even though I barely knew anyone, all the peoples in her group have a way of making you feel comfortable. Definitely people I want to kick it with more. Thanks bob, you're the bomb fo sho! BTW, for the white elephant gift, I got a pair of handcuffs and some chocolates. Random. I also got to talk to Pat, someone I went to high school with.

-I went to a winery for the first time with Minh/Czrena. It was pretty damn cool. For 10 bucks, you can get a wine glass and that includes unlimited tastings of all of their wine. The guy there was hella cool and he explained all the differences between the wines and how they were made. He introduced us to some really good red wines...so good that I bought a bottle of one. He also took us to show us the storage room and the tanks that are used in the wine making process. Wine tasting is very dope, even if you aren't too keen on wine (i'm not the biggest fan). I encourage everyone to try it at least once.

-Went to go see the musical, Jersey Boys. I havent seen many musicals at all, but I wanted to see this one in particular because I like the music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons (i.e. "Walk like a man", "big girls don't cry", and "sherry"). Plus, there were REALLY good reviews of it. My mom bought some group tickets from the theater in SF where it was showing, which made it so that she could purchase Jersey Boys tickets before it was available to the general public. Thus, the seats I got were really good seats, and the price wasn't bad. But fuck the price because seriously, I can say with 99% confidence that that will be the best musical I will ever see in my entire life without question. The whole thing was UNBELIEVABLY good. If it wasn't for the fact that the rest of the shows are sold out for the rest of the year, I would go again without question, regardless of the cost. The story, the writing, the songs, the singing is fucking RIDICULOUS. I'm glad at least Jon was able to make it; the rest of you had better hope that it comes back to SF!!

Resolutions for 2007:
-Lose 10% body fat.
-Do more outdoor activities: fishing, rock climbing, camping, etc.
-Meditate daily
-Keep working to make myself better (I came a long way this year, but I know I can do better)
-Meet more people
-Remove the things in my life that don't make me happy

I think the worst job in the world would be to be the "rep" for some celebrity. What a stupid, pointless job that certainly does not make the world a better place. You're pretty much the cleanup crew for this person that makes you look like you're their bitch. Sure, you will probably make a lot of money, but no one will take you seriously, because it's a given that you're going to deny any wrongdoing or bad stuff your master has done. And because that's what they do, I see their existance as pointless.

For those of you who are looking for places to get some quality fish (to cook), I would suggest going to the farmer's market in Mountain View. Apparently, there's a guy there who sells the fish that he catches, as well as some fish from other fishermen that he has connections with. Let me tell you, that shit is FRESH. I mean, the fish doesn't have that "fishy" smell at ALL. And it tastes SO much better than the supermarket fish. Even Race Street doesn't compare to this stuff. I cringe when I think of how old all the fish I've been eating from the bigger supermarkets was.

In the past few months, I've been witness to many of my friends getting their hearts ripped out of their chests by the girls that they loved and thrown on the floor and stomped on. While I admit that it's life, it's still painful to see. Heartbreak/heartache is a horrible thing in that it is like a fever, there is nothing you can really do...you can only let it run its course. Things will get better, that is inevitable (unless you FORCE yourself to stay miserable, which some do, for they see it as a way of making the love that they feel everlasting (this action which is, btw, complete and utter bullshit), but it doesn't occur to you when it's happening.

Heartbreak hurts guys and girls equally. I think. Or at least I'd like to think so. I'm not saying that girls don't hurt too, because seriously, us guys are stupid and cause females a lot of frustration and pain. I'm focusing on the ending of the relationships tho. I see a common theme in ending of the relationships of my friends and family around me in that they all blame themselves for the breakup. There is no admission of "it was both our faults", but rather a proclaimation of how they themselves fucked it up. It was this way for me too...at the end of my relationship (yeah you read that right, it's singular), I blamed myself for the ending of it (though I will admit that the "first relationship" blunders, added with my own stupidity, both during and subsequent to the breakup added to fuel the fire of the destruction). I just hate seeing it. It takes two people to make a relationship, and two people to break it. Unless one person cheats, and even in that case, it can still be recovered.

Being out of a relationship for so long is a good/bad thing. It's given me the ability to THINK. And i'm not talking about all those bullshit "epiphanies" and "revelations" that I've had in the past. I'm talking about some serious self-reflection. I feel like I've come MILES and MILES since sept of this year, and i'm trying to capitalize on that. Anyways, it's given me time to think about myself and my life and what's truly important. On the other hand, it feels weird. I mean, i've been out of a relationship for SO long that I can barely remember what it's like, and furthermore, I dunno..I just want to see what i'd be like in a relationship now - now that all this time has elapsed and I've been thinking and learning and all this stuff.

Finally, my life is getting way too routine. I need to go do more things. I need to travel around more. and when I say travel, I mean places around here! there are lots of things to do, and yet i've seen none of them. and it also seems, and I say this with no spite or anger whatsoever, that no one here has any urge to go do new things. It's not because we dont want to, I just figure we're all just slaves to our routines/work schedules. That and no one wants to plan anything because it's a pain in the ass. I also hope that the reason why our group of friends are all getting more distant is because we're in hibernation mode until it gets warmer and we do more things. But if not, that's life and it only means that I need to finally get off my lazy ass and do more things to meet more people.

Another weekend filled with interesting stuff.

-I got to see what it's like to get destroyed on the dance floor. Jon and his dance crew all went to sofa lounge, and i decided to tag along. Some sucky guys come along and try to battle, if you can even call it that. Its' more like, they were trying to mock the people dancing cuz they were drunk and/or stupid. So they get served up pretty good, and they they try and c-walk. Here's the thing: c-walking is for gangstas, not club-goers. And do not EVER try and use c-walking in a battle circle! That immediately says that you cannot dance. Anyways, so then, the choreographer/teacher of the entire crew gets up, and SERVES these two guys. It's ridiculous. It's too bad they didn't understand/appreciate what was going on, cuz they sucked too much. Sad.

-I drank something on the rocks for the first time. That means i'm old. Halfway through the glass I gotta say tho, I wished I had had ordered it with a mixer.

-I'm always tired these days. I don't get it. It's getting to the point where I need coffee everyday. Oh wells.

Time for another week to start. Sweet.

Monday, December 4, 2006

When you love someone, if you love someone, then you owe it to them to be as clear as possible. None of this implying, insinuating shit. None of this "you should have known" shit. None of this. When you love someone, you tell them. You have no problem telling them if they are making you pissed, or if they are making you happy. It's called honesty. And if you can't be honestly with the person you're with, maybe you should analyze if you really love the person, or just someone to keep you from being alone.

Sometimes I think you learn more from observing than from actually doing it yourself.
- - -
I need to keep improving myself. I need to make myself better today than I was yesterday. I need to keep learning, exercising, reading, living, breathing...standing on the edge of today and looking out over everything that life has to offer.

Today is the best day of my life, and I'll be damned if I waste it.

I need to make myself better for the people who are in my life...for myself, my family, my future love, everything.
- - -
It's a sad sad thing that the longer time progresses, the more I lose touch with the friends in my life. Even up here.

Time to expand the social circle. I just need to figure out how.
- - -
It was only a matter of time. See yah.
- - -
When I get older, I will get a dog. The dog will be a shiba inu. He will be called "Buta", "Ed", or "The Dog Named After Its Owner, Steve"
